Telematics
Every driver has already experienced problems through which his journey was unnecessarily prolonged or interrupted: Traffic jams, no free parking spaces, difficulties to find a hotel, the car breaks down or even an accident. Call centre-based telematics services help avoid these situations. Other telematics applications are based on vehicle tracking & tracing, such as “Pay-as-you-drive” insurance, anti-theft protection for cars and road toll solutions.
PTV solutions for the telematics industry
Concierge Services
Assistance and telematics providers integrate our software solutions into their call centre systems to provide the highest most dedicated level of service to motorists – from breakdown services to routing and hotel reservation services. The customer services team has access to helpful features, such as geographic search and routing options. It is also possible to pinpoint the location of vehicles and business partners, including detailed map displays. PTV also provides high-quality content – from POI data and traffic or parking information to maps.
eCall / bCall
The European Commission outlined new plans to accelerate the drive for safer, cleaner and smarter cars. The aim is to offer an automatic emergency call system (eCall) as a standard option in all new cars from 2010. PTV software solutions process the GPS coordinates at the control or call centre and instantly pinpoint the location of the accident to support the eCall system. PTV’s geographic tools enable rescuers to immediately dispatch help. The bCall (breakdown call) service is based on the same technology.
Geofencing / Stolen Vehicle Tracking
GPS tracking of vehicle fleets, single vehicles and other objects is the basis for advanced anti-theft protection and object monitoring. PTV software allows the call centre agent to immediately identify the exact location of the vehicles on a map. Geofencing means that the call centre agent can restrict the movement of a vehicle or other object to within a specified area by defining the area on the map. An alarm is raised if it goes outside that area.
Pay As You Drive
“Pay as you drive” insurance is a concept linking premiums to the driver’s behaviour. If motorists drive less and avoid times and routes that are classified as hazardous, they receive discounts on their insurance. PTV solutions provide GPS-based information about mileage driven, routes, speed and travel times required to calculate the insurance premium for each customer. “Pay-as-you-drive” systems can easily be combined with additional services, such as eCall.
Road Toll
Satellite-based toll collection systems meet the requirements for future-oriented road charging. PTV solutions allow toll operators to edit map data, add new toll roads and allocate the correct toll attribute to each road (e.g. toll rates per mile). The current map data is transferred to the in-vehicle telematics unit over a mobile data connection. PTV’s on-board software integrates the new map data, compares the route driven to the road network of the map and then immediately calculates the toll due.
Online Navigation
Motorists who have no in-dash navigation system or PND do not have to live without turn-by-turn navigation. Telematics service providers offer navigation services with clear voice prompts. PTV provides the backend technology for these low-cost online navigation systems.
Connected Navigation
In-vehicle navigation systems go online and receive different data – from traffic information to rich POI. Additionally, the systems transmit your current position data, which is the basis for many telematics services – from eCall to Concierge Services. Deep experience in onboard and online navigation qualifies PTV to deliver reliable technology and content for connected navigation. PTV even enables business customers to edit map data, for example by adding new roads to the system or allocating road attributes. The edited map data is transferred to the in-vehicle navigation device over a mobile data connection. PTV’s on-board software then integrates the new map data by using the incremental up-date option.
